The Spa Solution® Earth Friendly program is a more natural way to enjoy a clean water spa or hot tub without soaking in harsh chemicals or draining them into our environment. It is a water cleaning program designed so that each hot tub owner can learn what is needed to maintain clean and safe spa water based on his or her personal use. Many factors affect your spa water such as filtration, spa features, quality of source water, bather frequency and introduced impurities. Our hot tub water cleaning program is a guide that will help you determine how to care for your spa with environmentally-friendly products. Our 100% safe and effective enzyme products are the foundation for this program. These products soften and condition the spa water, stabilize pH & alkalinity and reduce or eliminate the use of many harsh chemicals. Following our program will allow you to drain your spa water without bringing harm to our ground water systems on which most living creatures depend.

SPA SOLUTION MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTION

 New Spa Directions..

1. Flush your existing garden hose with 1/2 tsp of chlorine granules (99% sodium dichlor), this is done by shutting off nozzle end of hose and let sit for 5-minutes, then flush. Water mold, bacteria, etc. may have collected in the hose and would contaminate the spa water.

2. Filling your spa with a garden hose Pre-Filter is recommended.

3. Add 1/2 oz Spa Chlorine Granules (99% sodium dichlor) to water for spas up to 500 gallons.

4. After temperature reaches 90 degrees or above, add 1-bottle of Spa Solution® . (1/2-bottle for spas up to 250 gallons & 1-full bottle for spas up to 500 gallons)

5. Run all pumps on high with all jets open for 5-minutes & enjoy.

6. Add one bottle of Spa Solution® every 3-months. Draining & refilling spa every 3-6 months is suggested


Note.. * New spas are water tested at the factory and some still have this old water left in the lines. 'Shocking' the water with recommended amount of Spa Chlorine Granules (99% sodium dichlor) after the first day is recommended to resolve this issue.



FOR OLDER SPAS


This is a two-step process. You need to remove all excess build-up of contaminants in your spa's system by using 'Purge', before using Spa Solution. You only need to use the Purge spa cleanser once a year. We suggest you do not use the spa during the Purge process.
This is a good time to inspect your cover for any tears, which would allow contaminated water to drip back into your spa water. If your cover has any rips or tears we recommend you replace it.

1. Remove your cartridge filter. During the cleanser process keep your filter out of the spa.
We also recommend you clean or replace your filter at this time.

2. Into the existing water, pour in one 480ml (16 oz.) bottle of Purge If the spa is five years old or more, use two bottles. You may use Purge in your existing water, regardless of how old the water is or what chemicals have been used in the past.

3. Let the spa, with water at least 32 degrees C (90F), circulate for a minimum of 8 hours per day for five days.

4. After five days, turn off the electrical power to the spa, drain the water, and flush the spa with fresh water. Put a hose in the filter area and fill the tub up to the foot-well area, then drain and clean the well. This will aid in completely flushing contaminants from your spa.

5. Clean and rinse both sides of the cover and head rests. You can use some Spa Solution® mixed with warm water, or household bleach with warm water.

If the cover has any breaks or tears, we recommend it be replaced. Flush the inside of the cover with your garden hose. The inside of covers have been known to harbor molds, mildews and bacteria all of which drip from condensation through the cover back into the spa water.

6. Put clean or new filter(s) back in, and refill your spa using a garden hose Pre-Filter. Turn power on.

7. Add recommended amount of Spa Chlorine Granules (99% sodium dichlor).

8. After temperature reaches 90 degrees or above, add Spa Solution® (1-full bottle for spas up to 500 gallons or 2000 litres). You don't need to check your pH on a regular basis because Spa Solution will maintain pH at normal levels automatically.

9. Run pumps on high with all jets open for 5-minutes & enjoy.

10. Add recommended amount of Spa Solution® every 3-months. Draining & refilling your spa every 3-6 months is recommended.

11. Clean your filter regularly. It should be rinsed with hot water, soaked in our Filter Soak cleanser (per instructions) and then rinsed with hot water. 



ADDITIONAL HINTS AND TIPS FOR USING SPA SOLUTION® :

1. We recommend selective use of fragrances with this product because not all are compatible. Try a small amount at a time to test for compatibility.

2. Spa Solution® is a positively charged ion. Your tub's surface has a negative charge. Once in a 90-day period, they will bond, and you will notice a slight film develop on the surface of your tub. All that you need to do is wipe the inside of your tub with a clean cloth or sponge to break this bond. The great result of this bonding is that it also creates a natural lubricant within your spa, coating your heating element, pump, seals, and your plumbing, allowing your tub's mechanics to work longer and better.

3. For the first day or two, and very occasionally thereafter, you may experience an organic earthy odour. This simply means Spa Solution has found contaminants and is working harder. In the case of an occasional organic smell, this may suggest your filter requires more frequent cleaning. Make sure the pH is between 7.8 and 8.4. Check to make sure the underside and inside of the cover has been cleaned.

4. Spa Solution® is compatible with ozonators, chlorine and bromine. Follow directions for use on the sanitizer product label.

5. Cloudy water may be caused by frequent use by a large number of bathers, or lotions, oils, deodorants, sunscreens or other products used on the skin or soap residues in bathing suits.

To clear up cloudy water:

* Make sure spa users and bathing suits are as clean as possible.

* Make sure the filter has been rinsed with hot water.

* Make sure the filtration system runs at least 8 hours a day.

* Try adding an oxidizer (non chlorine shock) after use

* OR Water clarifier (available at your spa product retailer) can be used to speed up recovery time.

* Be patient. The spa water will clear up and does not have to be drained if the water is cloudy; Spa Solution® just needs some time to do its job.

6. If your spa water has a high mineral content, it may be necessary to use a product to aid in the removal of the mineral. A high iron content, for example, may tend to leave a brownish ring around the spa. A high Calcium content will leave flakes or a precipitate on the side walls below the water line. Most spa dealers will stock this item.

Alternately, you can fill the spa with softened water which already has the mineral content removed by the softener, then bring up the calcium level to 120 to 150 ppm.

7. A low pH is very unusual and indicates that an acidic substance has entered the water. Spa Solution® will restore the pH to the range in which it works best, 7.8 to 8.4. To aid in the recovery of this normal range, a pH up product can be used.

8. For filling your spa, use a Garden Hose Pre-Filter. This makes initial chemical balancing easier & future issues are greatly reduced. It greatly increases (OFL) optimum filter life of your main filter(s) as well.

9. Deep clean your filters every 1-2 months using our Filter Soak. Rinse filter(s) weekly or as needed.

10. Ozonators are recommended and are compatible with Spa Solution®.

11. Cup-Holders should be swept out as water will turn cool and may produce a slight odour.

12. Bathing Suits should be washed in hot water without soap and double rinsed to remove dyes and any soap residue.

13. Neck jets should remain open slightly so that water may flow freely during filtration cycle.

14. Spa covers and headrests should be cleaned if any doors are present.

*If you have drained your spa and expect to leave it drained for an extended period of time, 'shock' the water with chlorine when you refill.

*If hard water, use a Stain & Scale control.
*If low calcium hardness, use a Calcium Increaser. 120-150ppm is the best range.

Filtration System
Minimum 6 hrs per day.

If your source water is hard water and you have not used a garden hose pre-filter, then the recommended amount of a Stain & Scale control should be used following directions on the bottle. Also a Metal Out product may be used when filling spa. Alternately, if you have a water softener, use soft water to fill your spa, then add the recommended amount of calcium.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Spa Solution made of?
Spa Solution is a proprietary Enzyme formula with added lanolin and glycerin. 

Is Spa Solution safe for me to use?
Yes. These enzymes are 100% safe for living creatures! 

Are my current chemicals not doing the job?
If you are comfortable with what you are currently using, stick with it. Spa Solution is a spa water treatment specifically designed for the chemical intolerant and for those who wish to have a low maintenance spa experience. 

Must a sanitizer be added when I apply Spa Solution?
Most jurisdictions recommend that certain levels of sanitizer be added to your spa water. Sanitizer used in conjunction with Spa Solution should be used as per label instructions. If you are chemical intolerant, we recommend adding stabilized chlorinating granules (sometimes called sodium dichloro) after each use of your spa, and then running the jets on hi for 30 minutes with the cover off. This will ensure penetration of the sanitizer allowing it to attack any bacteria that may be present, and very little chlorine will be left in the water by the time you next use your spa.

How often do I need to apply Spa Solution?
Typically, for spas up to 2000 l or 500 US Gal., one 480 ml application (one bottle) every three months is all you will need. 

How often should I test my spa water using Spa Solution?
We recommend that you continue to test your spa water regularly. You will find, over time, that less frequent testing will be necessary as you gain confidence in Spa Solution. You can order a package of bacteria test strips from us as well. 

What do the Bacteria Test Strips test for?
The Water Safe Bacteria test strips test for all water-borne bacteria in pool and spa water, including Pseudomonas, Aeromonas, E.coli, species of Salmonella, Shigella, Enterobacter, Klebsiella and many other Coliform and non-Coliform bacteria. 

Must I use The Penetrating Spa Cleanser -Purge as well?
The Penetrating Spa Cleanser must be used before Spa Solution for new users (this validates our guarantee), and we recommend its use once per year there after. 

How does Spa Solution help our environment?
When we empty the water from our spas, any toxins present will be sent onto our lawns or into our water recycling systems. With Spa Solution, natural enzymes will be released into the environment when we empty our spas. These enzymes are harmless to living creatures.
