Why the Balboa Wavetec254 Belongs in Your Hot Tub
The Wavetec254 uses proven UV-C light technology to neutralize harmful microorganisms at the DNA level — including E. coli, Cryptosporidium, and many others — before they ever reach your skin. No harsh gases. No chemical byproducts. Just clean, safe, comfortable water every time you soak.
Destroys 99% of Bacteria, Viruses & Pathogens
UV-C light deactivates the DNA of harmful microorganisms on contact, delivering hospital-grade sanitation without the chemical load that irritates your eyes and skin.
Reduce Your Chemical Usage
By handling the heavy lifting of sanitation, the Wavetec254 significantly reduces the amount of chlorine or bromine your spa requires — saving you money on chemicals and protecting your equipment from corrosion.
Won't Damage Your Spa Equipment
Unlike ozone and salt systems, UV light sanitation does not degrade seals, pumps, heaters, or other spa components. Your investment is protected.
Built for the Hot Tub Environment
Constructed with 316L stainless steel and a special heat-treated housing, this unit is engineered specifically to withstand the heat, humidity, and pressure of a working hot tub. No melting. No degrading.
Low Power, Long Life
At just 7 watts and with a UV lamp rated for a standard 12,000 hours of service, the Wavetec254 is one of the most energy-efficient sanitation systems on the market. The UL-listed electronic ballast keeps power consumption minimal.
Compact and Easy to Mount
The built-in mounting bracket means no extra stands or clamps are needed. The small footprint fits easily within the spa cabinet underskirt, making installation straightforward for qualified technicians.

Maintenance at a Glance
Keeping your Wavetec254 running at peak performance is simple:
- Every 6 months: Clean the quartz tube using a dry cloth or household lime remover. Rinse thoroughly before reinstalling.
- Every 12 months: Replace the UV-C lamp (PN available through your spa manufacturer's certified dealer).
- Status indicators: A solid green light on the ballast confirms the unit is receiving power. A solid red light confirms the UV-C lamp is actively running.
Important: UV-C lamp replacement and quartz tube maintenance should only be performed with the spa breaker turned to the OFF position. Never look directly at an operating UV-C lamp — UV-C radiation can cause serious eye and skin damage.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between model 59060 and 59061?
The only difference is voltage. The 59060 operates at 120V and is intended for North American spas wired at 120V. The 59061 operates at 230V/240V for spas on a higher-voltage circuit. Both deliver identical sanitation performance, flow ratings, and lamp life.
How does UV-C sanitation compare to ozone or salt systems?
UV-C light neutralizes pathogens on contact without generating any chemical byproducts. Unlike ozone, it does not produce gases that can damage gaskets, seals, or other spa components. Unlike salt systems, it does not corrode metal parts or increase total dissolved solids in your water.
How often does the UV lamp need to be replaced?
The UV-C lamp has a standard service life of 12,000 hours. Under typical hot tub usage, plan to replace the lamp once per year. Only use replacement lamps recommended by your spa manufacturer and supplied through an authorized distributor.
Can I install the Wavetec254 myself?
This unit is designed to be installed by spa manufacturers or qualified service technicians. It must be mounted completely underskirt of the spa, secured to the frame structure, and connected to the spa controller's dedicated UV/Ozone port. If you need help with installation or aren't sure whether your spa is compatible, contact Western Tub and Pool before purchasing.
What if I can't find my part number?
No problem. Send us a photo of the existing unit (if you have one), along with your hot tub's make, model, and serial number, to fixmytub@gmail.com. Our team will identify the correct part and confirm it's right for your spa before you order.
Is the Wavetec254 safe for use with existing chemicals?
Yes. The system is designed to work alongside your existing water chemistry routine. Because UV-C handles a significant portion of the sanitation load, you can typically reduce your chemical usage — but you should still maintain proper pH, alkalinity, and sanitizer levels as recommended by your spa manufacturer.
