Vapor Barrier Upgrades
A quality vapor barrier protects your foam core from moisture absorption — the number one cause of premature cover failure. Alpine covers come standard with a 4-mil polyethylene barrier, with upgrades available in:
- 6-mil
- 8-mil
- 10-mil (6-mil + 4-mil double layer)
- 12-mil (6-mil + 6-mil double layer)
- 14-mil (8-mil + 6-mil double layer)
For Canmore's climate, we strongly recommend a minimum 8-mil barrier upgrade to maximize the lifespan of your cover.
Handle Options
Alpine now offers three handle styles to suit your setup:

How to Measure Your Hot Tub for a Replacement Cover
If you'd prefer to measure your own tub, here are the key guidelines:
- Measure in inches only
- Measure the acrylic shell at its widest points — typically where the outer edges meet the cabinet
- Hold your measuring tape flat, extending it slightly past the top edge of the acrylic
- Note your corner radius — if corners are not square, measure the radius carefully (a radius template can help)
- Common hot tub shapes include rectangle, square, octagon, octagon-rectangle, 5-sided, and round — identify yours before measuring
Pro tip: If your old cover fit properly, you can use it as your measuring reference. That said, even small errors in measurement can result in a poor fit. When in doubt, have us come and measure for you.

How do I know when it's time to replace my hot tub cover?
If your cover feels significantly heavier than it used to, struggles to retain heat, has visible cracks or tears in the vinyl, or smells musty, it's time for a replacement. Waterlogged foam loses most of its insulating value and will noticeably increase your energy costs.
What foam density and thickness is right for Canmore's climate?
Given the cold winters and heavy snow loads in the Canadian Rockies, we generally recommend a minimum of a 5"–3" tapered Silver cover (R-16) for year-round use, or a Gold line cover for maximum insulation and durability. For areas with very heavy snowfall, the 6"–4" Silver (R-20) is an excellent choice.
